About Photographer Noah Fallis
Photographers note: Due to the number of emails I get about photography, please no inquires about headshots, boudoir photography, unsigned model portfolio development, or family portraits. I'm flattered you like my work but there are many other talented Calgary photographers who specialize in those kinds of photography.
If you're an assistant/student looking to work with me, please title your subject line "Photography Assistant - Your Name". My life is organized through email and this helps. Also, you must attach your best image of a white 8.5x11 piece of paper. Don't care if it's wrinkled or flat or folded, just use lighting to make it look good. If you are serious about photography, you'll put some serious effort into this.
(Sorry, no phone number listed here, don't want to be on those damn dirty telemarketers lists)
Photographers Evolve...
There was a time when photographers would lock themselves into absolute blackness and hand load film into processing canisters then muck about with toxic chemistry to get the perfect negative. I can still remember the thrill when watching a black and white print form before my eyes and the smell of stop bath on my hands.
Those were good days. These days though, things are much better.
Photography has completely transformed over the past ten years both creatively and technically. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a part of this metamorphosis. The creative landscape of photographers has increased exponentially and with it professional photographers continued to up the ante. That, for me is what is so wonderful about this industry. The pursuit of the perfect photograph.
Photographers: The Eyeball Control Freaks
I'm addicted to light. It's natures greatest design tool. Despite having a solid grasp of what to do with light I still get giddy when the high res image opens up in Photoshop (I appear calm and collected, but it's just an act). Seeing shape born of light and darkness is the first thrill but the real slap of glee happens when the eye is successfully directed around the photograph. Quite simply, all professional photographers are control freaks about other peoples eyes. The more you can control where those glossy spheres look, the better you are. The better you get the more control you want to have, until one day you end up going a bit nuts, and do "pinhole only" photography while talking to the trees you photograph. I'm pretty sure that's my retirement plan.
Feast your eyes on this gripping 2 minute epic film of a fashion photography adventure. In case you're wondering, I take photography very seriously. Myself? Not so much. Photos from this shoot are here.
A few random things:
- Donnie Darko, Bladerunner, Moulin Rouge are fantastic movies. Why? They all have bold vision.
- One day, I will make a art house film that puts a massive emphasis on light, just for kicks. Already made a documentary and plenty of promo videos. Telling a story with moving pictures is bliss for me.
- I am likely to be the most prolific Facebook profile photo creator ever.
- Really love good advertising. Love everything about it. Mostly the people though. They tend to be driven, funny, and don't take themselves too seriously. They are also genetically predisposed for being good at pool.
- People who don't laugh enough need to laugh more
- More than slightly concerned that bees, frogs and pine trees are being wiped out by the self fulfilling impotence of a global bureaucracy
- Love this sushi place on Davie St. in Vancouver
- My kid's laughter is the greatest music ever invented
- Music and Math are spooky in their universality
- Love science. Hate math. If I was better at math I would have been working at the Haddron Super Collider as a quantum photographer. Chicks dig the Haddron pocket protector.
- Richard Feynman is my hero.
