Fashion Photography Portfolio based in Calgary, Alberta

As a fashion photographer in Calgary my jobs are always a bit of an adventure. Being such a young city and heavily dependent on the whims of the oil industry Calgary still manages to ratchet up its creativity. It's not quite the fashion photography industry you'd find in New York, but it is growing. There are also plenty of innovative business leaders and incredible musical talents that need to be publicized via photography. So if you are a local magazine (or not so local) in need of a photographer you're welcome to contact me and we'll see what we can get arranged. Below is a sampling of fashion and editorial photography I've shot in Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver.

Fashion photos SportChek Fall 2009

Fashion photography for SportChek in Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise

The Forzani Groups Creative Director contacted me about doing some fashion photography for their upcoming season. A few weeks later we were waist deep in the snow of Lake Louise and then shooting in the streets of Calgary. They were a fantastic group of people to work with and spoke volumes of the corporate culture Forzani fosters. It was an absolute pleasure being one of their photographers. That, and they are ferocious Jenga players. View SportChek's fashion picts.

Lookbook photographer for Lara Presber

Fashion designer Lara Presber releases Summer 2010

Lara Presber is one of those hidden jewels in the fashion designer scene here is Calgary. She has an extraordinarily unique approach to each season. She bases her designs on architecture. She connects the motifs and silhouette of her garments to a physical structure. Since I'm a closet fan of spacial design her work appeals to me for it's depth in translating a 50 story skyscraper into elegant, and very wearable fashion designs. I continue to shoot her lookbook photography (and then some)..

Fashion Photographer with Paul Hardy at Franks Slide

Fashion photography with Paul Hardy at Frank's Slide Alberta

Internationally known fashion designer Paul Hardy was chosen to be featured in an 8 page spread for Opulence. After chatting with the Creative Director about the look of the photography we decided to shoot the entire day at Frank's Slide. The first fashion shoot that had ever been done there (at least that's what the people at the Interpretive Centre told us). The barren landscape of broken rock and beautiful BC forest made my job as photographer, well, easy. > View this fashion photography series.

Fashion photographer with Lamborghini props

Fashion photographer shoots Lamborghini Gallardo (oh, and models)

Opulence Magazine needed some fashion photography for a 12 page spread for their "Best Cars" issue. The location they chose was at ZR Auto, an exotic car dealership in the SE of Calgary. Using cars that ranged from $300K to over half a million dollars as photographic props, was a bit nerve racking. If someone tripped on a cord, a one-of-a-kind, 1000hp, stupid fast, Lamborghini Gallardo gets a light crashing into it. Fortunately no cars were hurt during this shoot.

photos of models

Models, models and more fashion photography

Every so often I do creatives and testing with local models that are signed with professional modeling agencies. As a fashion photographer it gives me a chance to experiment with lighting while giving the models, stylists and hair & makeup folks a shot for their books. On occasion I also help models with the right body type to develop their lingerie / underwear portfolio. Note to all those girls (and guys) who want to be professional models in Calgary or anywhere else, listen to Tyra Banks. She knows what she is talking about.

editorial photography

Editorial Photography with celebrities, rock stars and some great people...

Vancouver View magazine hired me to shoot some editorial photography for them of Jason Priestly and Terry David Mulligan. The trick was I had to set up my photography gear while Jason's film crew tore down their set. All very quickly too as I had about 10 minutes to take the photograph. The "wine cellar" you see in the background was only 4ft wide so the lighting had to be very tight. Jason and Terry were both great to work with and understood exactly what I needed to get the shot. Love working with actors. Plus plenty more photography of interesting folks I've met over the years.
